Daughter of the year: Meet Amritha who saved her father’s life on the eve of her wedding

Kodungallur: Amritha Lakshmi was a happy bride on her wedding day as her father was by her side. Her father, former block panchayat member Thiruvalloor Kottekad Ajayan (56) had slipped and fell into a pond the other day. But, Amritha Lakshmi who displayed incredible presence of mind and courage saved him with the help of their neighbour Chithra Madhu.

After doing some maintenance work on the biogas plant, Ajayan stepped into the pond to wash a few utensils. Chithra Madhu too had noticed him getting into the water. She went and checked when Ajayan didn’t come up after some time.

Chithra was shocked when she saw Ajayan lying face down in the pond. She quickly got into the pond and pulled Ajayan to safety. Hearing the commotion from the pond, Amritha Lakshmi and her mother Manjusha too rushed to the spot to help Chithra.

Amritha who is a physio therapist gave him first aid, which brought Ajayan back to life. He was then rushed to Modern Hospital nearby. Meanwhile, Ajayan and his family members arranged a grand reception at their house on the wedding eve. Amritha Lakshmi works at the special school run by Kudumbasree in Eriyad panchayat. Kasargod Neeleshwaram native Vishal is Amritha’s groom.
