Thiruvananthapuram: A man suffered severe burn injuries after a firecracker case exploded while he was handling gunpowder at Kattayikkonam on Sunday morning. The injured, Balakrishnan, hails from Kulathoor and has been living in the locality for the past two years.

Family members who were inside the house at the time rushed out after hearing the explosion and found him on the ground with serious burn injuries. He was immediately shifted to the Government Medical College Hospital, where his condition remains critical.
Residents in the neighbourhood said they were unaware that Balakrishnan was involved in firecracker work. Pothencode police have reached the spot and launched an investigation into the incident.
