Thrissur: Police have confirmed that the death of an elderly woman in Mundoor was a case of murder. Her daughter Sandhya (45) was arrested as the prime accused. Thankamani, 75, of Ayinikkunnath house, Shankarakandam, Mundoor, was found dead on a plot behind her home at Mundoor Panjamoola around 5.30 am on Sunday. She had minor facial injuries, which officers initially suspected were from a fall, and her gold chain was missing. The post-mortem report later confirmed homicide.
Investigators say the murder occurred during the theft of gold ornaments. Sandhya’s partner, 29-year-old Nithin of Chittilappilly, has also been taken into custody.
Peramangalam police found that the death occurred when Sandhya pushed her mother by the neck while attempting to snatch the chain. Police said both accused have confessed to the crime and have been sent for medical examination.
