Kuttipuram: The teachers and the PTA of the Kuttipuram Perassannur Government Higher Secondary School have embarked on a mission to uncover the history of their beloved school. According to the admission book, the school was started in 1924 in Edakazhiyoor.
As many as 94 students had studied at the school until 1925. Meanwhile, Kozhupad Appukuttan Nair was enrolled as the first student at the school. The school was then known as the Board Hindu Elementary School managed by the Malabar District Education Board.
The school was then moved to Kuttipuram Perassannur in 1926. Marayath Vetakalathil Rukmini was the first student to take admission at the Perassannur school. After the birth of Kerala, the school was elevated to a UP school and later became a high school in 1980. Now, the school, which is one of the prominent educational institutes in the area has classes up to the higher secondary sections.
However, no one knows where exactly the school functioned in Edakazhiyoor or why it was moved to Perassannur, which is around 60 kilometres from here. So, the teachers are asking around the people here, especially the older generation, to know more about the school’s history. Although PTA president OK Sethumadhavan, vice president Mustafa and teacher Subramanian enquired at Edakazhiyoor and nearby places, nothing came up. The people of the locality, however, know the history of Edakazhiyoor GLP School.
Interestingly, the local residents are familiar with the name and the address mentioned in the school’s admission register. The PTA and the teachers have decided to dig deep in the coming days so that they would get a clear idea of the school’s history. The school’s past is being dug up as part of the closing ceremony of the grand centenary celebrations that began in 2024.
