Bathery: Joyi of Manapparambil, Thakarappadi, who lives in a plastic hut over a drainage channel and had been denied even his ration of kerosene, heaved a sigh of relief when officials visited him and took measures to ensure he received the benefits he was previously denied. Joyi will start receiving the 6 litres of kerosene, allotted for those without electricity, after December 6.
Manorama had reported yesterday that Joyi, living in a state of extreme poverty, was denied his kerosene ration after being wrongly classified as having a house and electricity. As soon as the report came to their attention, Bathery Taluk Supply Officer A P Rajeena Beevi and Rationing Inspector V C Sabu went to Thakarappadi to find Joyi.
He was away for daily wage work at a farm on the fringes of the forest. The officials took pictures of the shed where Joyi lives and his deplorable surroundings. Afterwards, the two officials went to the farm where Joyi was working. They met Joyi in person, gathered information, and reassured him that kerosene would be made available to him soon.
"We have seen and verified Joyi's condition firsth and he has been included in the NI (Non-Electrified) card category for those without electricity, and he will start receiving the benefit within two weeks," said Taluk Supply Officer A P Rajeena Beevi.
"Those without electricity can be placed in the Non-Electrified category and receive the benefits if they provide a certificate from the KSEB or the Revenue Department stating their situation. However, no one had informed us about Joyi's case. Since we have seen and verified his situation in person, he no longer needs a certificate."
The TSO (Taluk Supply Officer) also added, "If there is anyone else living without a house or electricity, the concerned promoters or local body representatives should inform the Taluk Supply Office or contact the Supply Officer. No one's benefits will be blocked."
