Kochi: A day after the Thiruvananthapuram Sessions Court rejected his anticipatory bail plea in a rape case, Palakkad MLA Rahul Mamkootathil approached the Kerala High Court on Friday seeking relief.

The Nemom Police registered the FIR on November 28 based on a detailed complaint submitted by the rape survivor and her family to Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan. The complainant accused the MLA of rape, impregnation through sexual assault, and forced abortion. She also alleged that Rahul video-recorded intimate moments to threaten her.

Rahul has been booked under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including Section 64 (rape), Section 89 (forced miscarriage), Section 316 (criminal breach of trust), Section 351 (criminal intimidation), Section 329 (trespass), and Section 116 (causing grievous hurt). He also faces charges under Section 66E of the IT Act for violation of privacy.

In his bail plea submitted to the High Court, Rahul reiterated that the allegations were politically motivated and intended to divert attention from the Sabarimala gold theft controversy. Meanwhile, Rahul continues to evade arrest. The Kerala Police Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been searching for him for nine days, ever since the Nemom Police booked him. The Congress expelled him shortly after the sessions court rejected his plea.
