Ernakulam: Linu, the Kollam native who had undergone a roadside Cricothyrotomy with a blade and a straw after he met with an accident at Udayamperoor that left him choking for air, has succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Ernakulam.
Despite Dr Manoop B, Dr Thomas Peter and Dr Dhidiya K Thomas, who were passing by, giving him life-saving treatment on the spot, Linu's condition remained extremely critical even after reaching the hospital, Dr Manoop told Manorama News.
He said that Linu had suffered extensive trauma with multiple bones on his face, nose and mouth broken, leaving his airway completely blocked.
Dr Manoop also noted that he was in the red category under the Advanced Trauma Life Support (ATLS) protocol, which requires the "most immediate care."
Although the three doctors performed an emergency cricothyrotomy, he went into cardiac arrest after being taken to the hospital. "It was after this that he was shifted to a ventilator," he said.
The accident took place on Sunday night, when the scooter Linu was driving collided with a motorcycle carrying Vipin and Manu at Valiyakulam. The impact flung all three onto the road.
Vipin had managed to stand up, but was described as limping due to injuries, while Manu was conscious but had suffered spinal injuries according to Dr Thomas.
Dr Manoop also said that everyone had worked very hard to ensure a good outcome and that the news was deeply saddening for all those involved.
