The government has increased the premium for the Medical Insurance Scheme for State Employees and Pensioners (MEDISEP), raising the monthly contribution from ₹500 to ₹810. The Finance Department issued an order increasing the monthly amount by ₹310. With the revision, beneficiaries will have to pay an annual premium of ₹8,237, in addition to GST. The revised rate will come into effect from January 1, 2026, and the government will deduct the amount from the salaries of employees and pensioners.
Service organisations have announced plans to mount a legal challenge against the premium hike, reported Manorama News. Explaining the decision, the Finance Department said the increase aligns with the launch of the second phase of the MEDISEP scheme. It added that the government fixed the revised premium after addressing shortcomings in the existing scheme.
