Kottayam: Members of the Navjeevan Trust marked this year's Christmas by sharing the festive spirit with families living beneath the Kidangoor bridge on the Kidangoor–Ayarkunnam Road. Seven families, comprising 23 people, have been residing there in makeshift shelters covered with tarpaulin.

Navjeevan Managing Trustee P U Thomas had visited the spot a few days ago after learning about their living conditions. Most of the residents depend on fishing for their livelihood, while some take up daily-wage work such as woodcutting. Often, they survive on leftover food collected from nearby auditoriums after wedding functions, a reality that defines their day-to-day existence.

Touched by their circumstances, P U Thomas and members of the Trust decided to celebrate Christmas with them. The shelters were decorated with stars and LED lights and bringing festive cheer, carol songs filled the space. New clothes were distributed to all, and the celebration concluded with a shared meal of chicken biryani.
