Kottayam: Former Kaduthuruthy MLA P M Mathew died at the age of 75. He passed away on Tuesday at a private hospital in Pala, where he was undergoing treatment for kidney disease. He served as the MLA of Kaduthuruthy from 1991 to 1996 and was a long-time member of the Kerala Congress (M).
Mathew, who consistently backed farmers’ welfare, also served as the General Secretary of the National Farmers Party (NFP), which was founded in May this year. In addition, he served as the chairman of ODEPC, the vice chairman of KSFE, and a member of several other advisory committees. He also held positions in the Kerala University Senate and on various boards. He is survived by his wife, Kusumom Mathew, and three children.
