When his five-year-old wedding ring went missing, Tom C Antony refused to leave it to chance. Instead, he turned detective- patiently tracking clues, scanning CCTV footage, and following every lead until he cracked the case himself.

A resident of Cheriamukkada House in Kurumbanadom and a senior software engineer with Manorama Online, Tom's meticulous investigation earned him the nickname "Sherlock Tom", a tribute to the legendary fictional sleuth.

The gold ring, weighing one sovereign and gifted by his wife Roshan Babu on their wedding day five years ago, went missing on December 19. Tom said he was wearing the ring while visiting a tyre shop in Thengana to replace his vehicle's tyres. However, by the time he returned home, he realised the ring was no longer on his finger.

He immediately searched his house, retraced his route, and checked the tyre shop, but to no avail. Unwilling to give up, Tom began collecting CCTV footage from nearby establishments. The footage showed no sign of the ring being lost outdoors, prompting him to focus his attention on the tyre shop.

A careful review of the shop's CCTV footage revealed a migrant worker picking up the ring from inside the premises. Armed with the visual evidence, Tom filed a complaint at the Thrikkodithanam Police Station.

On his way back, Tom stopped at a tea shop near the tyre outlet and discreetly asked about the worker. He learned that the man was employed at a nearby furniture store. With the assistance of the police, Tom tracked him down and successfully recovered the ring.
