Connecting commuters
The wait for a seamless transit at Palakkad Junction railway station is almost over, as the new foot overbridge linking the main entrance with the second entry point at Thanavu is scheduled to open within two months. Divisional Railway Manager Madhukar Raut confirmed that approximately 90 per cent of the construction work is complete, with final touches being added to the new lift and escalator installations.
Easier passenger movement
Built at an estimated cost of ₹3.3 crore, the foot overbridge will allow passengers to walk directly between the two entry points. Currently, commuters have to navigate platform five and climb stairs to make the transition. The direct link is expected to significantly reduce congestion at the bustling main entrance, providing a more balanced flow of pedestrian traffic across the station.
Enhanced facilities at Thanavu
The second entrance at Thanavu is already equipped with booking counters and enquiry desks, making it a fully functional alternative for passengers. Commuters arriving from the Mannarkkad side will benefit the most, as they can now access the platforms directly through the Thanavu entrance without having to navigate the busy Olavakkod Junction. In preparation for the launch, the railway authorities have also expanded the parking facilities at the second entrance, and the approach road connecting Thanavu to the main entrance has been widened and paved with interlock tiles.
