Twenty-one were injured when two KSRTC buses and a lorry crashed early Sunday near Chengannur; drivers are seriously hurt.

At least 21 people were injured after two KSRTC buses and a lorry collided near Christian College Junction in Chengannur early Sunday morning.

The accident, which occurred around 1 am, involved a KSRTC Deluxe bus travelling from Munnar to Thiruvananthapuram, a Super Fast bus heading from Thiruvananthapuram to Kozhikode, and a lorry.

Preliminary indications suggest that the accident occurred when the buses were trying to overtake the lorry. The injured were shifted to Chengannur Taluk Hospital and nearby private hospitals. However, the drivers have been seriously injured. Following this, they have been shifted to Vandanam Medical College, where they are currently undergoing treatment.

According to the Chengannur police, a statement from one of the injured passengers has been recorded. Following this, an FIR regarding the accident will be registered soon. Further investigation is underway.
