The Cherthala Police in Alappuzha have intensified their search for the car and its driver who allegedly fled the scene after colliding with a two-wheeler, resulting in the death of the rider.

The accident occurred around 1.15 pm on Sunday near the Chenganda curve at Thanneermukkom. The deceased has been identified as Sivaprasad, 29, a native of Thanneermukkom. His friend, Vishnu Murali, 27, who was riding pillion, sustained minor injuries.

According to police, both vehicles were travelling in the same direction when the two-wheeler allegedly braked suddenly. The car travelling behind then collided with the bike, with its front-right portion hitting the two-wheeler. Sivaprasad and Vishnu were thrown onto the road, while the car driver allegedly fled without stopping.

“As it was noon and there was little traffic on the road, it took around 10 minutes for local residents to notice the two injured men. An ambulance was then called, and they were taken to hospital,” a Cherthala police officer said.

A case has been registered against the car driver under Sections 281 (rash driving) and 106(1) (causing death by negligence) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
