Indian Newspaper Society: Akila Urankar elected president, Jayant Mammen Mathew deputy president

Bengaluru: Akila Urankar of Business Standard was elected president of The Indian Newspaper Society (INS) for 2017-18 at its 78th annual general meeting here Friday. Jayant Mammen Mathew, deputy editor of Malayala Manorama, is the new deputy president. He is currently the regional chairman of INS' Kerala unit.

Shailesh Gupta (Mid-Day) is the vice-president and Sharad Saxena (Hindustan Times, Patna) is the honorary treasurer of the society for the year 2017-18, according to an INS press release.

S.P. Gaur is the secretary general of the society.

The 41 members of the executive committee also include Jacob Mathew, managing editor of Malayala Manorama; P.V. Chandran of Mathrubhumi and Biju Varghese of Mangalam Weekly.
