Former Kerala Ranji captain K Jayaram (Jayaraman) died of cardiac arrest in Kochi on Saturday. He was 67.
Jayaram, who hailed from Ernakulam, played 46 matches for Kerala and aggregated 2,358 runs at an average of 29.47. The right-hander also scored five hundreds and 10 fifties and picked up two wickets with his part-time spin in his first-class career.
Jayaram was rated as one of the finest batsmen produced by Kerala. He was also a member of the South Zone squad in the Duleep Trophy.
Jayaram was a star player for Kerala in the 1980s. He achieved national prominence in the 1986-87 season, when he scored four hundreds in five matches in the Ranji Trophy.
He was a former junior national selector of the Board of Control for Cricket in India. Jayaram was also the chief selector of the Kerala senior teams for a few years.
He also served as a match referee and was an apex council member of the Kerala Cricket Association.
He is survived by wife Rama and son Abhay.
The cremation will be held at the Ravipuram crematorium on Monday (2.30 pm).
