One can only wish the West Indies were not in so much of a rush and stayed back for at least one more outing to make it a three-match Test series.

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way because India have a tour of Australia planned next week and the Windies must pack their bags after the ongoing second Test in Delhi.

But the fact that the visitors managed to take the final Test into the fifth day, on Tuesday, shows they have got better since the hiding they received in the first Test in Ahmedabad that was wrapped up on Day 3, with India winning by an innings and 140 runs.

In Delhi too, India are on course for an easy win as the hosts closed Day 4, needing 58 more to win, and nine wickets in hand. Shubman Gill is guaranteed a first series win as India's Test captain.

The highlight of the day was the Windies posting 390 in their second essay and giving the Indian batters something (121) to chase. The visitors were made to follow-on after being bundled out for 248 in response to India's first innings score of 518/5 declared.

John Campbell and Shai Hope resumed the day at 87 and 66 respectively and went on to get their centuries (115, 103), which helped the Windies avoid the shame of another innings defeat. Justin Greaves made an unbeaten 50, while captain Roston Chase added 40 and Jayden Seales (32) refused to give up, taking them from 311/9 to 390.

For India, Kuldeep Yadav and Jasprit Bumrah bagged three wickets each, while Mohammed Siraj, who castled Hope, claimed two wickets.

India lost first-innings centurion Yashasvi Jaiswal (8) early, but closed at 63/1 with K L Rahul (25) and Sai Sudharsan (30) in the middle.
