A couple of Malayalis scored centuries as Karnataka defeated Kerala in the Vijay Hazare Trophy in Ahmedabad on Friday.

Karun Nair scored an unbeaten 130, while Devdutt Padikkal made 124 as Karnataka won by eight wickets chasing 285 in 48.2 overs.

Padikkal was born in Kerala, but the family shifted to Hyderabad and later to Bengaluru. Karun is a Bengaluru-Malayali.

In November, Karun scored a double century as Karnataka crushed Kerala by an innings and 164 runs in the Ranji Trophy.

On Friday, Kerala's Ranji skipper Mohammed Azharuddeen rediscovered his form with 84, while Baba Aparajith made 71. Kerala, who missed Sanju Samson for the second match in a row, posted a fighting 284/7.

In their Vijay Hazare Trophy opener, Kerala crushed Tripura by 145 runs with Vishnu Vinod scoring a century.
