Galle: India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant reached a rare milestone on Tuesday, becoming the first Indian and only the fourth player overall to hit 100 sixes in Test cricket.
Pant achieved the feat on the fourth day of the ongoing Test match between India and Sri Lanka in Galle. He also became the fastest player to reach the landmark, doing so in his 51st Test.
Former England captain Ben Stokes is second on the fastest list, having reached 100 Test sixes in his 82nd match.
Pant's 100 sixes place him alongside an elite group that includes Stokes (138), New Zealand's Brendon McCullum (107) and former Australia wicketkeeper-batter Adam Gilchrist (100).
Pant started the Test with 97 sixes and equalled Chris Gayle's tally of 98 in India's first innings before completing his century of sixes in the second innings.
Among Indians, Virender Sehwag and Rohit Sharma are joint second on the list with 91 sixes each.
In the second innings, Pant scored a brisk 66 off just 69 balls after a disappointing outing in the first innings, when he was dismissed cheaply. His knock proved crucial as India were bowled out for just 193, setting Sri Lanka a target of 371 runs.
