Guwahati: The day ACA Stadium, Guwahati, turned into a true batsman’s paradise, witnessing a thrilling high-scoring battle that ended with India emerging victorious. Shubman Gill’s unbeaten 223 off 133 balls and Rohit Sharma’s 75-ball 101 led India to an eight-wicket win against West Indies in the second match to seal the series, here on Wednesday. Gill broke the record for the fastest double century in One Day Internationals, achieving the feat in just 117 balls.
Earlier in the first innings, West Indies put up their highest-ever ODI score of 405/7 on the board, thanks to centuries from John Campbell, Amir Jangoo and skipper Shai Hope. India’s Auqib Nabi had a disappointing debut following an expensive spell without a wicket.
India chased down the herculean target with 39 balls to spare, backed by a fiery performance from openers Gill and Rohit. Gill's innings included 26 fours and 8 sixes, while Rohit celebrated his 35th hundred.
The opening wicket partnership of 255 put India in charge of the game, while a short but explosive cameo from Virat Kohli, 29(19) and Rituraj Gaikwad’s 31 not out off 37 helped India to comfortably chase down the target.
