Al Khor (Qatar): Defending champions France edged out England 2-1 to enter the semifinals of the FIFA World Cup.

Aurelien Tchouameni drew first blood for France in the 17th minute. England captain Harry Kane converted a penalty to make it 1-1 in the 54th minute.

Oliver Giroud regained the lead for France in the 78th. Kane missed a penalty late in the game as England crashed out.

France will meet Morocco in the second semifinal.
