Star wrestler and Asian Games gold medallist Vinesh Phogat tied the knot with wrestler Somvir Rathee in a private ceremony.
The wedding took place in her hometown Charkhi Dadri in Haryana.
Vinesh posted some wedding photographs on social media announcing her marriage.
"Dreams do indeed come true! Thank you everyone for your blessings..#justmarried," she wrote.
In a brilliant gesture, the couple decided to take up the cause of female foeticide in Haryana and took eight vows together instead of the regular seven. In the eight vow, the couple promised each other to 'save daughters, teach daughters and to let them play.'
The couple had earlier this year got engaged at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport in August after Vinesh's return to India from Jakarta, where she became the first ever Indian woman wrestler to bag a gold at the Asian Games.
Earlier this year, Vinesh also won the gold at Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Vinesh's sisters Geeta Phogat and Babita Phogat were also present at the ceremony to bless the newlyweds. Geeta arrived at the wedding accompanied by her husband Pawan Kumar.
Vinesh and Somvir's wedding is the latest among a string of high-profile weddings involving sportspersons.
Shuttlers Saina Nehwal and Parupally Kashyap got hitched on Friday in Hyderabad while Indian cricket captain Virat Kohli married Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma in Italy last year.
