India's two-time Olympic medalist Neeraj Chopra said he was working to rectify a technical issue as he prepares for this year's World Championship.
"I have already identified the areas I need to work on," Neeraj said as he prepares for the Tokyo World Championship to be held in September with his legendary coach Jan Zelezny.
"While throwing the spear, I tend to fall too much on my left side. We need to work on that. In training, I don't do that, but in competition, it happens because of the extra effort I put in," Chopra said.
Chopra is the defending world champion as he had edged Pakistan's Arshad Nadeem for gold in the 2023 edition at Budapest. But a year later, Nadeem defeated Neeraj in Paris with an Olympic record of 92.97 metres.
Neeraj has been one of the most consistent javelin throwers in the world in the last five years. In May this year, he breached the 90-metre mark (90.23 m) at the Doha Diamond League.
"I have achieved 90m this year. But I need to be more consistent to achieve it more often. I am continuously around 88-89m, and my coach said he is happy, but I need to be more consistent," Chopra said.
"My next target is the world championships, and I want to win there. Before the world championships, I will plan with my coach and see which event I can compete in to best prepare for it."
