French tennis player Gael Monfils, 39, hit a highest ranking of World No 6.

Gael Monfils, an entertaining tennis star, has announced his plan to retire at the end of next season.

The Frenchman, who hit a highest rating of World No. 6, never won a Grand Slam, but said he has no regrets.

"Though this game means the world to me, I am tremendously at peace with my decision to retire at the end of the 2026 tennis season," Monfils wrote in a post he shared on social media.

The 39-year-old won 13 ATP Tour titles and reached the semifinals in the French Open, 2008 and the US Open, 2016.

"Life is too short," said Monfils. "Believe me when I say that I have no regrets. What I do have is the feeling that I have been lucky: insanely, stupidly lucky."
