For Miss World runner-up turned actress Parvathy Omanakuttan, traveling is more than a hobby. It is a passion that she ardently pursues and dare to go the extremes.
Staying away from parties and crowds, Parvathy celebrated last new year trekking through the Chandrashila Peak in Uttarakhand and river rafting in Himachal Pradesh. “My year began with watching stars on the sky from the shores of River Ganga. It was the most amazing feeling I had so far. I will be back to the mountains for the next new year also, I hope,” she said.
“Till 2008, the only traveling experience I had was the occasional trips to Kerala with my family. I was interested in traveling, but didn't get a chance till I started working,” Parvathy said.
"While traveling, what excites me most is the opportunity to meet different cultures. When I started traveling across India as part of my work, I was very excited to see different culinary traditions and lifestyle. When I realized how diverse the world is, I started developing an interest for traveling,” she added.
“When I see something new, let it be a place or a dish, I have an inquisitiveness to try it,” she said. According to Parvathy, personally experiencing a place is much different from reading about it in a book or watching it in TV. Then she made the decision that whenever she get to travel abroad as part of work, she would try to extend her stay and explore the place.
“I prefer to go to historical travel destinations-places like Rome, Florence, Venice, and Paris. When we see monuments like the Eiffel tower or the Louvre Museum, we learn its history also. It is a great feel,”said.
“In India there are so many great places that are yet to be recognized. When I travel, I try to connect with places which are not touristy. For me, nature has been a big inspiration,” she added.
Parvathy also went for scuba diving in the Andaman Islands recently, an experience that is “beyond words” according to her. Parvathy also said that she is looking forward to do an advanced course in scuba diving and to explore the world under water.
