All Spice: Nice and not so spicy

My mother still considers eating out a sacrilage – especially when I am home on a short visit and she takes that extra care to dish out my favourite grub. She is not happy as I go out with my cousins. Our destination is a joint called All Spice near Kuravankonam. Owned by the Supreme Group of companies, this building houses a bakery on the ground floor and an eatery on the first floor besides Oriental Spice, a multi cusine restaurant, where we were headed. They claim to have authentic Chinese, Continental and North Indian dishes. Having suffered the 'Indian' Chinese dishes at many places I decide to give it a miss. I settle for Tossed Salad and a Pizza, while my cousins discuss what they would like to have. Finally one of them, the hungry one, decided on a 'Non Veg Thali' and the other settled for 'Biriyani' after a lot of debates. And as we wait, we order some chicken popcorn, like an after thought. The pleasant ambience and the attentive waiters add to the charm of the place. Though small, the walls are done up in pleasent colours and there is enough privacy. The first to arrive was the chicken popcorn. It was so tasty that it got over so soon. More chicken popcorn was ordered as the conversation went on. The 'Non Veg Thali' was a very appetiseing spread at Rs 220. The Lacha Paratha which came with the thali was gobbled down with the Mutton curry and Dal Makhni. The mint chutney, was fresh and tangy. The Pizza was cheesy and tasty; the Tossed salad – very colourful. Give the desserts at the restuarant a miss and indulge in the bakery situated on the first floor. You will really enjoy it, like we did. That 'ma' had a scowl on her face when I got back is another story. Location: Kuravankonam, about a Kilometre from Kowdiar
