It was quite by chance that we discovered Baker Cafe. Tucked away beyond the escalator on the ground floor of the recently opened Mall of Joy, this charming joint is the latest entrant in the list of eat-outs in Kottayam. And if you are not looking for it, easy to miss.
The fare
Bakers Cafe is essentially a place where you can sit down with a book and enjoy your coffee. They have a selection of sandwiches and burgers to quell your big hunger pangs. Dig into their cupcakes, cheesecakes and doughnuts. The puddings – tender coconut especially – is finger-licking good. What endears the selection of sweet delicacies are the fact that they are just moderately sweet and do not really give you an instant sugar high.
A major bulk of the cakes and puddings are manufactured in -house at the bakery situated on the top floor of the Mall of Joy and hence are fresh.
The ambiance
The low lights, neatly arranged seats on either side of the wall, and the tastefully decked up walls sets a slow, relaxed ambiance to the cafe. The friendly staff is an added advantage. You have to pay, get your tokens and you are free to find a table of your liking. And then on it is pure indulgence.
Verdict
Baker Cafe is friendly on the purse. The must try on the menu is tender coconut pudding, coffee flavored cheesecake, tiramisu and the coffees. The Baker Special burger and sandwich is sinful, to say the least. We are going to head back to this place for a nice quiet evening. We suggest you do too.
