It’s for no reason that the Thuruthumma hanging bridge across the mighty Muvattupuzha River became an instant hit among local people and travellers. The 1.35 m-wide-and-115 m-long bridge offers enchanting vistas of nature to the glee of scores of visitors. The structure, which connects Kannamkulathu Kadavu with Thuruthumma, was built in 2009 and is located in the Maravanthuruthu panchayat, near the Vaikom-Ernakulam road. 

What to see? 
The most captivating view from the suspension bridge is the sight of the river merging after it takes two different paths as it flows around a small island. The bridge literally hanging in the air across the water body is an incredible sight to behold. How to reach? 
1. Take the Brahamangalam road from Neerpara junction on the Thalayolaparambu-Kanjiramattom route while coming from Kottayam. From the Brahamangalam road, take the road leading to Thuruthumma to reach the hanging bridge. The distance from Kottayam railway station is approximately 42km. 

2. Reach Toll Junction on the Vaikom-Ernakulam road after travelling from Kottayam via Thalayolaparambu Market Road and the Toll Palakadavu road. While travelling towards Ernakulam, turn from Kochangadi Junction to head towards the bridge. The distance from Kottayam railway station on this route is approximately 38 km.

3. Turn from Kochangadi Junction while travelling from Vaikom to Ernakulam to arrive at the bridge. The distance from Vaikom is 9.5km.

What should be kept in mind?
1)The local community uses the bridge, and sightseeing should not pose a hindrance to them. Follow the instructions of local residents.
2)The bridge is at a certain height, and you have to climb steps to reach the bridge.
3)The river is quite deep, and you should never try to enter the water.
4)Be careful while enjoying the beauty of nature from the floating boat jetty at the Kannamkulathu Kadavu.
5) The bridge is just 200m from the Kochangadi Junction, and the road leading to the bridge is very narrow. Don’t park vehicles on this road.
