Those heading to Malarikkal for its famed water lily bloom can now expect more than flowers, with a virtual reality centre opening its doors here. The centre would remain open throughout the water lily season. The water lilies generally bloom till mid-September, after which the fields will be drained of water to sow paddy seeds. Features not limited to Malarikkal tourism
The virtual reality headsets at the centre offer visitors immersive experiences of tourist destinations in different countries, the wonders of the underwater world and the vastness of outer space. There is also a 3D theatre for viewing 3D shows and a gallery featuring three-dimensional views of historical and tourist destinations.
A binocular has been installed to offer views of places up to 10 km away, while a photo booth allows visitors to take their own 3D photographs. A hologram display is another attraction. Schools and students can also visit the centre to get acquainted with educational technologies such as virtual reality and augmented reality.
