The Neelakurinji flowers may have had their moment in the sun, but the hills of Munnar are far from done with their floral spectacle this season. Rattle pod, or Kilukilukki flowers, are now painting the slopes here yellow, drawing tourists and nature lovers alike. The hillsides and grasslands at Yellapetty, a village along the Munnar-Vattavada road, have burst into bloom, with clusters of yellow flowers transforming the landscape.

With their distinctive shape and striking colour, the blooms lend a unique charm to the slopes. Often overlooked when not in bloom, the wild plant becomes hard to miss when it flowers in large clusters.

The plant gets its English name, rattle pod, from the seeds inside the dried pods, which produce a rattling sound when shaken. The plant is often grown in certain Keralam households too, to draw butterflies to their courtyards. It's also an integral part of many butterfly parks across the state.

What to see in Yellapetty
The flowers are not the only attraction here. A nearby waterfall offers visitors another reason to linger. After enjoying the waterfall, visitors can also stroll through the various stretches of the yellow blooms. An array of thatched huts nestled amid the flowers adds to the charm, while a stream winding through the greenery completes the picturesque setting.
