Etihad Rail's 1,200 km network launches June 30, offering scenic journeys and discounts for infants, children, and seniors, aiming to boost tourism and development.

UAE's 1,200 km national railway network, Etihad Rail, which connects all seven Emirates, will be launched on June 30, Tuesday. The trains, which travel at around 200 km/hr, can accommodate about 400 passengers at a time. The passengers of the rail get to experience deep inland desert dunes, rugged rock walls and coastal ports along its way, from the comfort of its coaches. The service has also announced special discounts in ticket fares for infants, children and senior citizens. Here are the details.

Special rates for travellers
Infants
Children under 17 must travel with an adult and cannot book tickets independently. Meanwhile, travel is free for infants under 2 years. However, a special child ticket must be purchased if the passenger is travelling with more than one child.
Children
A combo ticket for a child and an adult in the Comfort Class costs 83 Dh and 180 Dh in the Premium Class.

Elderly
The ticket costs 44 Dh in the Comfort Class for the elderly. It is 96 Dh in the Premium Class.
Ticket booking
Tickets can be booked online at etihadrail.ae or in the Etihad Rail app. Passengers can select seats until 24 hours before departure.

Debut service
The first service of the Etihad Rail is on June 30 from the Muhammad bin Zayed City Station in Abu Dhabi to the Al Hilal City Station in Fujairah.
Ticket fares
Discounts up to 50 per cent have been announced ahead of the inaugural service. A Comfort Class ticket costs 55 Dh, while a Premium Class ticket costs 120 Dh.

Duration
It would take 105 minutes for the train to reach Fujairah from Abu Dhabi and 57 minutes to Dubai.
Aim
The railway network aims to strengthen the bonds among the Emirates in the UAE, attract investment, and promote tourism and urban development.

Next phase
The Jumeirah Golf Estate and Al Dhaid stations in Sharjah will open on September 30. Meanwhile, Al Dhafra Station is scheduled to open on December 30, and the University City Station in Sharjah will open on March 30, 2027.

Ticket categories
1. Saver – Changes or refunds are not allowed
2. Value – Changes could be made free of cost until 72 hours before departure.
3. Flex – Unlimited changes could be made until 30 minutes before the travel. A full refund will be provided if the ticket is cancelled 24 hours before departure.
