India signs global entry program. Here's what it means to frequent travelers

Low-risk Indian travelers to the USA will now enjoy speedy entry into the country after landing, with India making a formal entry into the U.S.’ International Expedited Traveler Initiative.  If you are an Indian citizen planning to travel to the US anytime soon, here is everything that you need to know about this program.

What does it mean?

Global Entry is a US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) program that allows speedy clearance for low-risk travelers upon their arrival in the US. The travelers are pre-approved for the program after a rigorous background check. In-person interviews are also taken to check the ‘low-risk’ status of the applicants before the enrollment. Apart from this, the travelers may further be questioned when they enter the United States in case the need arises.

How it works

Once you have this special access all you have to do is present your passport of US permanent resident card at a special kiosk.  You will have to verify your fingerprints, fill out forms and this kiosk will issue a transaction receipt. Pick up your baggage and you are done.  This facility is available at select American airports, including New York, Newark, Washington, Austin, Dallas, Houston, Boston, Chicago, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Jose, Las Vegas, Miami, and Seattle.

Where to sign up?

The applicant has to first create a Global Online Enrollment System account, complete their application and pay a non-refundable fee of $100. US authorities will run a thorough background check before inviting candidates for an interview. Once you clear this interview, they will grant you the special access.
