Ooty gets season's first spell of snowfall

Udhagamandalam: If you are undecided about where to go for New Year celebrations, Ooty could end that search for you. Many parts of the popular hill station in Tamil Nadu is reporting moderate to heavy snowfall.

The first snowfall was recorded on Christmas eve. Stadiums of HPF and HADP, Race grounds, Thalakunda, the railway station and surrounding areas are all covered by the white blanket of snow.

At many places, the temperature sub zero levels.

The Regional Meteorological Department expects the delayed snowfall to increase in the coming days and to last for another month.

The mixed weather condition of warm days and cold nights are creating problems for officials of Ooty's famous gardens. Preventive measures are bring taken to safeguard the plants and grass from getting destroyed in the heat.
