Kumarakom: Hoping to give an impetus to the tourism sector in Kumarakom, the Kerala State Water Transport Department will soon begin boat services between Kumarakom and Alappuzha. The AC boat in which 120 passengers can board at a time will reach Alappuzha through the Vembanadu Lake in just over an hour. The KSWTD plans to begin similar boat service from Vaikom to Kochi as well. The newly introduced boat service is aimed at tourists who travel in big groups.

The service would operate only if there are 120 passengers on board. The ticket rates will be announced by the authorities soon. The boat services are likely to be inaugurated on the occasion of the LDF government’s second anniversary. Currently the passengers take the government boat from the Kumarakom boat jetty to reach Muhamma, and from there they board a bus to Alappuzha. Even if the passengers are able to board a bus as soon as they reach Muhamma, it will take more than one and half hours to reach Alappuzha from Kumarakom.

The newly introduced boat service will not have any other stops in between Kumarakom and Alappuzha and thus it would reduce the travelling time significantly. The ‘See Pathairamanal’ tourism project initiated by the water transport department too would begin soon. The package includes an exotic boat ride from Kumarakom to Pathiramanal, Thanneermukkam and Kavanittinkara bird sanctuary. A 100 seater solar powered boat will be used for this project. The tourists can enjoy a vast array of beautiful sights during the 45 minute long boat ride from Kumarakom to Pathiramanal.
