Australian hitchhiker Emmanuel Marshall traveled 8000 kms from Edinburg, Scotland, to New Delhi, and he did not spend a single penny on accommodation or travel. So, you may ask, how did he do it? Well, during his eight weeks on the road, he bartered cans of beer for food, transport and accommodation.
It was a challenge backed by the Innis & Gunn, a brewing company in Edinburg, Scotland, that wanted to retrace the journey of the Indian Pale Ales during the 18th and 19th century. The original Indian Pale Ales had been shipped to India, and it took them over six months to be delivered those days.
Marshall decided to take the road and the journey took him about eight weeks to reach New Delhi. Even though he hitchhiked through France, Austria, Germany, the Czech Republic, Bulgaria and Greece, the company flew him down to India for the final leg so that he won't have to go through war-torn areas.
