Tourists arriving to experience the delightful sight of Neelakurinji, the flower that blooms only once in 12 years, can now take home souvenirs made specially for the season. The forest department has stocked up a number of products at its outlet at the Eravikulam National Park, the tourist hub of Munnar.
The idea is to market the glories of Kurinji across the world and fetch a revenue.
Kurinji umbrellas are one major attraction at the forest department outlet atop the Eravikulam Rajamala. They carry pictures of the Neelakurinji flower and are sold at Rs 1,080 a piece. The product is in great demand.
Also on show are coats and jackets which carry the logo of the national park. Other fancy items are on sale with pictures of the Kurinji and Nilgiri tahr, an animal that can be spotted only at the park. These are sold at Rs 300 plus.
Pure honey and eucalyptus oil collected by tribals from the woods are also on sale.
