Alappuzha: The Budget Tourism Cell (BTC) of the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is planning to conduct tourism trips every day during the summer holidays in the months of April and May. Authorities said that 100 of the 130 new super-fast buses being purchased by the public carrier would be utilized to conduct these budget tours.

“The plan is to conduct at least 1,500 different trips from various depots. When the plan is implemented, the average daily trips from a depot will go up from 20 to 35,” said an officer. KSRTC is hoping to earn a revenue of Rs six crore over the two months from these additional services.

Meanwhile, depots in several districts have sought the new buses to conduct inter-state services during the holidays.

BTC authorities said that over 3.5 lakh passengers travelled on 4,500 tourism trips under 800 different packages during the last 15 months. KSRTC earned Rs 16 crore from these tourism packages, they added.
