New boat jetty at Neriamangalam to offer an amazing trip to Bhoothathankettu

A new boat jetty at Neriamangalam to be inaugurated on April 18 is expected to provide a big thrust to tourism activities in the Kothamangalam region of Ernakulam district in Kerala.

Located on the border of Ernakulam and Idukki districts, the Neriamangalam jetty is built on the left bank of the Periyar River, near the bridge. The jetty has a three-tiered landing floor and the construction was carried out under the Periyar Valley Project.

Tourists heading to the numerous popular destinations in Idukki district such as Munnar and Thekkady along Kothamangalam in Ernakulam district can stop at Bhoothathankettu and board a boat to reach the new jetty at Neriamangalam.

This trip along the river passes through picturesque spots such as Kuttambuzha, Thattekad and Inchathotti. From Neriamangalam, the travellers can resume their journey to destinations in Idukki by road.

Likewise, travellers from Idukki can take a boat from Neriamangalam and enjoy the scenery on both banks of the river till Bhoothathankettu. Another advantage of the boat ride is the chance to observe wildlife at close quarters.

The jetty was built at a cost of Rs 50 lakh utilizing the local area development fund of the Kothamangalam MLA Antony John and would be inaugurated by Industries Minister P Rajeev. The new project is part of a plan to set up a tourism circuit in the region, said authorities.
