The Indian Railways has decided to serve airline food in the trains running in Kerala, including the Vande Bharat trains. The authorities informed Kodikunnil Suresh MP that it has included three catering units, including the flight kitchen operators in Kerala, in the onboard catering list. Kodikunnil Suresh confirmed that Vikram Singh, the executive director of Railway Board Tourism and Catering, had informed him that Samrudhi, run by the Kochi-based Kudumbasree unit, Casino Air Caterers and Flight Services (CAFS), and Thiruvananthapuram-based UDS, have been empanelled for onboard rail catering.
Meanwhile, the MP demanded to ban Brindavan Products, which supplied poor quality food in the trains, from participating in the tender procedure. The officials from the Railway Board had visited various catering services and flight kitchens in Kerala before empanelling new caterers. The ticket fare from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam in the Thiruvananthapuram-Kasaragod Vande Bharat Express is ₹800. It drops to ₹680 if a passenger doesn’t pre-book breakfast. To avail of this, they must check the no-food option while booking the tickets.
The ticket fare is ₹1,190, including dinner, from Ernakulam to Mangaluru on the Thiruvananthapuram—Mangaluru Vande Bharat train. If dinner is not purchased along with the ticket, the ticket can be booked for ₹990. Passengers can register complaints about the catering by dialling 139 or via the Rail Madad app. They can also post complaints, including pictures of the food, on social media platforms by tagging the Railways (@RailMinIndia).
