On the occasion of the country's 79th Independence Day, the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is also set to introduce new fleets of buses for passengers. The corporation is gearing up to roll out 164 new buses across various categories, including Fast Passenger, Super Fast, Fast Passenger Link, Premium Sleeper and Seater-cum-Sleeper series. The Seater-cum-Sleeper and Sleeper buses come in a theme designed after the national flag, featuring push-back leather seats, mobile charging points, televisions, CCTV surveillance and onboard cameras.

Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar inaugurated the trial run of the new fleet. The design for the new buses was created by G Adithya Krishnan, an automobile and transport design graduate from Coventry University, England, along with his friend Amal Jokin Salat. Adithya Krishnan is the son of Minister Ganesh Kumar.

In the Seater-cum-Sleeper buses, berths are arranged above the seats, with single berths on one side and double berths on the other. While the Fast Passenger and Super Fast models will be operated on Tata chassis, the rest will use Ashok Leyland chassis. The new fleet will be on public display at Kanakakkunnu Palace grounds from August 22 to 24.
