Alappuzha; The fifth season of the Champions Boat League (CBL) kicks off today with the Kainakari Boat Race on the Pampa River. Tourism Minister P A Mohamed Riyas will inaugurate the event at 4 pm, while Agriculture Minister P Prasad will preside over the function. Chundan Valloms (snake boats) and the boat clubs that secured the top nine positions in the Nehru Trophy Boat Race will compete in the league this year.
The 2025 edition of the CBL will feature 14 races, including 11 for snake boats. Of these, five races will be held in Alappuzha, two each in Ernakulam and Kollam and one each in Kottayam and Thrissur. The northern districts of Kasaragod, Kannur and Kozhikode will host one race each for smaller boats. The league will conclude with the President’s Trophy Boat Race in Kollam on December 6. The champions will be awarded a cash prize of Rs 25 lakh.
