Malappuram: Southern Railway has advanced the departure of the newly introduced Nilambur–Shoranur/Kannur MEMU (Train Nos. 66325/66324) to address long-pending demands from passengers and local representatives.

From Wednesday, the train will leave Nilambur at 3:10 am—30 minutes earlier than the previous 3:40 am—and reach Shoranur by 4:20 am. It will halt at Vaniyambalam (3:22 am) and Angadipuram (3:45 am) en route.

The revised schedule is aimed at ensuring smoother onward connections. Passengers can now conveniently board the Shoranur–Thrissur–Ernakulam/Alappuzha MEMU (66319) or the West Coast Express (22638) towards Palakkad, Coimbatore, Chennai, and beyond. The change also improves links to trains heading to Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam from Thrissur and Ernakulam. Those travelling further north can remain on the same MEMU to reach Kozhikode, Kannur, and other major stops.

The adjustment follows sustained efforts by the Nilambur–Mysuru Railway Action Council, which had flagged issues with the earlier timing since the service began. Repeated appeals were submitted to railway officials, supported by Union Minister George Kurian, MPs P V Abdul Wahab, E T Mohammed Basheer, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, former Railway Amenities Committee chairman P K Krishnadas, and others.

Meanwhile, officials said the evening MEMU (66326 Ernakulam/Shoranur–Nilambur) will get a stop at Tuvvur in Malappuram once the platform extension works there are completed.
