From January next year, Indigo will have services to Greece's capital, Athens, from Mumbai and Delhi. The flights from Mumbai will be from January 23, and the one from Delhi will be from January 24. Once launched, Indigo will be the only domestic airline to offer direct flights to the European country. The service will be on three days a week and will be operated in Indigo's first long-range narrow-body aircraft, A321 XLR. The first flight will depart from Mumbai and arrive in Athens the same day.
Indigo CEO Pieters Elbers said, "This momentous development marks the beginning of a new era for IndiGo's long-range narrow-body operations, making us the only Indian carrier offering direct connectivity between India and Greece. We are confident that these new routes will play a vital role in strengthening cultural and economic ties between the two ancient civilisations." The new Airbus enables the carrier to operate non-stop flights to Southern Europe cost-efficiently. It has 12 IndiGoStretch (business-class) seats and 183 economy class seats.
