The ‘Rent a Bike’ facility at the Kozhikode railway station has become a hit among passengers within a short period of time. The service of renting electric bikes was started only last Wednesday and is already in high demand. Five bikes are currently rented out on 24-hour and 12-hour slabs. KE Jamshad, managing director of FJ Business Innovations, which operates this service, says there are many takers for these electric bikes. He said that the company would also add a one-hour slab when more bikes are available. Jamshad noted that four new bikes would be added to the fleet soon, followed by five more.

Rates and facilities
Passengers are given fully charged bikes that are sufficient to cover 100–120 kilometres. Currently, passengers are also charged when the bikes are rented. However, the costs of charging the bike along the way should be borne by the customers. The rent-a-bike facility provides a better travel option for passengers who arrive in the city for a day. Bikes could be rented for Rs 50 per hour, Rs 500 for 12 hours, and Rs 750 for 24 hours. The company hopes this rent-a-bike service will be helpful to those who reach Kozhikode for urgent matters, as well as to tourists, students, and professionals. Bikes are a comfortable option for short-distance travel for those who do not prefer hiring taxis or autorickshaws.
