Following a sharp rise in jet fuel prices worldwide, Air India has announced it has revised fuel surcharges on international and domestic routes. The changes will be effective from April 8, Wednesday, for most routes. For Australia, North America and Europe, the surcharge revision will be effective from April 10. Passengers flying short-haul routes (0-500 km) will have to pay an extra ₹299. Those on longer routes (2,000-plus km) will be charged up to ₹899.

A few days ago, IndiGo revised its fuel surcharge structure. Typically, fuel accounts for 40% of operating expenses. Meanwhile, yesterday, Air India suspended its flights to Israel till May 31. Most of the leading airlines have suspended their operations on the Tel Aviv route, with only Israeli carriers like El Al, IsraAir, Arkia and Air Haifa operating under severe restrictions.
