The long-awaited Vistadome coach, a first in Kerala, can be experienced from Thursday onwards on the Madurai- Guruvayur Express (16327/16328). The train, which begins its service from Madurai at 11.35 am on Thursday, reaches Guruvayur at 2.15 am on Friday.
The 44 seats of the Vistadome coach, each of which costs ₹1,875, have been fully sold out on the first trip. The train will operate only on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. It proceeds via the scenic Chenkotta-Punaloor-Kollam route, and passengers can enjoy the breathtaking landscapes sitting on its two-way reversible seats.
What is a vistadome coach?
A vistadome coach is an air-conditioned railway passenger coach fitted with extra large windows and a see-through glass roof. It also generally has pushback, rotating seats, letting travellers enjoy the landscape the train passes through properly. Some of them also have observation lounges from where they can appreciate the scenery left behind. Wi-fi facilities, sliding doors, mini-pantry areas, luxury toilets, security cameras and more are also part of it.
Trains with 360-degree panoramic views were introduced in the United States in 1944. In India, it was introduced in 2017, on the Visakhapatnam-Araku Valley route in Andhra Pradesh. On this train, passengers could see the train climb a steep ascent from 11 metres above sea level to 996 metres, experience it passing through 58 tunnels and 84 bridges, along the Kaitiki Waterfalls, green valleys and caves. It is also one of the most popular tourist experiences in Andhra Pradesh.

The Vistadome coach will operate on designated days as per the following schedule on the Madurai-Guruvayur train:
For train number 16327 (Madurai to Guruvayur), the coach will be available from Oct 22, 2026 to Jan 15, 2027.
For train number 16328 (Guruvayur to Madurai), the service will run from Oct 23, 2026 to Jan 16, 2027.
How to book
The Vistadome coaches are marked separately as EV, alongside other coaches on apps like RailOne. A seat costs ₹1,875, and as of now, the seats are fully booked for the first few weeks, as per the booking apps. Tatkal booking is generally not available for Vistadome coaches.
