Meet the 6 Kerala women appointed in military police

Thiruvananthapuram: Women are now appointed in the military police in the rank of personnel below officer. Six Keralites, including two candidates from Thiruvananthapuram, have found places in the rank list for appointment. S R Gowri and P S Archana, both natives of Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam natives A Malu, Janika S Jayan, Maya Sajeef from Palakkad and T Vismaya hailing from Malappuram are thrilled that they are the first Keralite women to be selected to the military police.

They are among the 20 selected candidates from the Bengaluru region. The women in the military police should be at least 142 centimeters tall. The application to the posts was invited between 25 April and 8 July this year. The selection processes were held at the centers in Ambala, Jabalpur, Bengaluru, Lucknow and Shillong. The applications were invited just three months after the government had published the order to appoint women in personnel below officer rank.

The candidates in this rank are responsible for investigating the crimes in the military. They are also required to give support for the police during emergency situations or help evacuate the border villages during the time of cross border war. They have to manage the movement of migrants, especially women and children and to run the detention camps during conflicts. The military police that functions as part of the UN’s special mission would get opportunities to serve in countries like Congo, Somalia, Rwanda and Sierra.
