Kochi: Kerala Education Minister V Sivankutty announced that more seats will be allotted for higher secondary Plus-One courses for the 2022-23 academic year. This has been necessitated by the shortfall of an estimated 60,650 seats when compared to the likely number of students who will be seeking admission for the first-year higher secondary courses in various streams.
In all 4,21,957 students have passed the Secondary School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination held by the Kerala Board of Public Examinations. The numbers will go up considerably with the announcement of the results of the Class-10 exams held by other boards like the CBSE and CISCE.
There are only 3,61,307 Plus-One seats in the government, aided and unaided higher secondary schools across Kerala.
Last year too more seats were allotted for Plus-One courses after a record number of students passed the SSLC exams. The overall pass percentage last year was 99.47%. This year's figure as per the results announced a few days ago is 99.26%.
