Cochin Shipyard, a central government undertaking, invites applications for the 12-month-long Graduate Marine Engineering course that ensures well-paying job in Indian and foreign vessels. The classes are scheduled to begin on 1 January; there are 114 seats up for grabs. The candidates could also ensure admission through sponsorship from a shipping company. The applicants should have scored at least 50% marks in Mechanical/ Naval Architecture graduation/ marine engineering. Besides, they should have scored 50% marks in English in class ten or twelve. They shouldn’t be over 28 years as on 1 January 2023. Besides, they should be physically fit. The aspirants should have 157 centimetres height, proportional weight and chest measurement. They shouldn’t be colour blind. The candidates should present the certificate issued by a medical officer who is approved by the Directorate General of Shipping. Besides, they should be passport holders.

The total fee of the course including accommodation, food and study materials is Rs 4.85 lakh. In the beginning, the candidates need to pay Rs 2,42,500. The remaining amount should be paid within the next three months.
Even though the fees for the women candidates is Rs 3,72,500, it would be better if they understand the working conditions in a ship before applying. The candidates who complete the course should undergo six-month-long practical training in the vessels and pass the class IV competency exam before joining a commercial ship as junior marine engineer. After gaining work experience, short-term training and qualifying high competency certificates, the candidates could get promoted to chief engineer.
