The online application for admission to the first batch of the Sreenarayanaguru Open University could be submitted until 15 November. Five BA programmes and two MA programmes will be offered in the first phase.
BA courses
Language and Literature: Malayalam, English, Hindi, Sanskrit, Arabic. The three-year course has six semesters. Those who have passed Plus-Two (Class 12) can apply.
MA courses
English Language and Literature: The two-year course has four semesters. Graduation is the minimum eligibility to apply.
Malayalam Language and Literature: This too is a two-year course with four semesters. Those who have graduation can apply. There is no minimum marks criterion to apply. A semester would be of 18 weeks. A single credit requires at least 30 hours of learning.
Courses that may begin later
BA: Economics, Philosophy (specialisation in Sree Narayana Guru studies)
BCom, BCA and BBA
MA: History, Sociology. Those who have graduation in any subject can apply.
M Com: Candidates who have graduation in BCom/BBA/BBM or equivalent eligibility can apply for this course.
Fees
The fee for BA courses is Rs 17,630 and for MA it is 14,770 per year.
For future courses the fee has been set at Rs 23,630 for B Com and Rs 18,770 for M Com.
All applicants need to pay Rs 350 as recognition fee. There are guidelines regarding fee relaxation for candidates who belong to the Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes and Other Eligible Categories.
The fee would be refunded if the application is rejected. The applicants must note that fees could only be paid online.
How to apply
Online application could be submitted as per the instructions on the website. Click on the link ‘Apply for Admission’ for the guidelines of application. The printed copy of the online application should be sent via post to the concerned centres. After the application has been submitted, the completion certificate could be generated online.
The last date for certificate verification at the respective centres would be given in this certificate.
The printed copy of the application, certificates, fee receipt, the original and copy of the identity card and original Transfer Certificate should be presented for verification.
The documents wouldn’t be kept at the university. If the certificate verification is satisfactory, an admit card signed by the director would be given to the candidate.
Those who are already employed too can join for the courses. The graduate/diploma certificates are equivalent to the certificates issued by other UGC-approved universities. There are no study centres outside Kerala. Besides, those who have studied three-year diploma courses cannot apply for the under- graduate programmes.
The main subject of study cannot be changed later.
